Machining and Assembly of a Hydraulic Filtration Manifold Kit for the Commercial Aviation Industry
APM was asked to create a hydraulic fluid filter and distribution manifold kits for use on commercial airlines. We came through for this customer by producing a complex assembly using our engineering, precision machining and finishing services. These kits would need to be manufactured to high standards of quality due to their critical role in an airliner’s hydraulic control system.
Our work started with engineering and the selection of high strength 4130 alloy steel for the kit. To preserve accuracy in the fabrication process, CNC machining methods includied milling, turning, drilling, deep drilling, threading, porting and finishing. Our equipment included a CNC turning center, a CNC vertical machining center and an automatic saw. This combination of cutting-edge methods and high quality material allowed us to achieve tolerances of ± 0.001” on the 6.25” x 1.90” x 1.50” part. Subsequent electroless nickel plating provided an excellent finish and rust protection.
Production of each kit was followed by a thorough dimensional inspection that incorporated thread and port gages. Orders of 25 – 50 pieces were delivered with 4 to 6 week lead times. Through our high accuracy production and an engineering team capable of processing highly complex designs, APM delivered this durable, reliable and high performance airline hydraulics product.
